Benefits of Reclaimed Teak
October 30th, 2008 by: aaronFor centuries, teak wood has been considered to be one of the most sought after woods for manufacturing. The Dutch began to use it in ship building in the 1800s and soon found after a ship had run its course, that the teak wood used could be reclaimed and fashioned into a whole new product.
This was a common practice for many European countries. Especially in England, where many Victorian gardens were decorated with teak benches that were taken from elderly ships. You may still find teak benches all over public English gardens that are nearly a century old.
Reclaiming teak has many benefits, especially when it comes to saving the earth. Since teak can stand up to the constant pressures of any outdoor weather condition, it is not uncommon for teak wood to be used again, once its original function has been completed. This means that less teak trees need to be cut to produce the furniture that customers are looking for.
